Since the body is your instrument in performing your daily life activities, it is your own obligation to educate your body. Teach your body how to enjoy and express the art of body movements through play, exercise, dance and sport activities in order for it to respond effectively to your daily needs. You have to live actively in order to gain maximum benefit and enjoy the best things in life as you perform your task everyday.

To be physically fit is an important part of your health. This indicates that there is a smooth relationship between the work of your skeleton, muscles, heart and lungs to carry out your daily activities. Exercise develops a healthy heart and lungs and gives you strength and stamina that allows you to run, dance, cycle and swim.

This is an exercise that will strengthen and tone the muscles of your lower leg, your gastocnemius muscle and your soleus. We call this the standing calf raise exercise.

The gastrocnemius muscle is a two-bellied muscle that forms the curved calf of your posterior leg. The soleus forms the underside of your foot.

If you want to have these muscles toned and strengthened, just do this easy exercise. Here are the ways in doing so.

1.You stand holding the dumbbells with your arms placed at your sides. You can try placing the balls of your feet in a platform about 1 to 2 inches wide. This can cause an increase in the range of motion being worked by your muscles.
2.If you’re placing your feet in a platform, you start lifting your heels from the ground bringing your body up until you come to the point that you are standing on your toes. You can feel your gastocnemius tighten and contract. This contraction signifies that the muscles are actually acting against the pull of the other muscles; thus, the muscles are made firm, healthy and constantly ready for action.
3.Staying in that position, you try to hold the contraction of your muscles briefly. Then, you lower your heels as gently as possible and return to your starting position.

The movement during the performance of this exercise should be deliberate and controlled that only the ankle joint should move. This controlled movement should last for about five seconds.

An outer development of the calf could be done by standing with your toes pointing slightly inward. To achieve an inner development of your calf you can try pointing your toes slightly outward and bringing your heels toward one another.

In performing this exercise, an action that would seem like reaching out for something from the ceiling could be of help by bringing both of your arms raised high above.
